Celebration Dinner at Gumbo... Clockwise fr Top Left - Mudpie, Me with Red Wine, Seafood Gumbo, Buffalo Wings with Blue Cheese, a Hurricane and Pan-Seared Blackened Chicken with Mixed Veggies and Cole Slaw
FOOD JOURNAL – I am currently on the 3rd Phase of the Dukan Diet where the goal is to consolidate my weight loss while enjoying certain liberties such as the once a week Celebration Meal where I can eat what I want but only one appetizer, one soup, one main dish, one dessert and one glass of wine. In this week’s Celebration Meal, I had more glasses of wine that I should have (why am I not surprised?) and then I had pa a Hurricane. Naku!
Much to celebrate this week:
1) My weight-loss feature in Look Magazine,
2) the arrival of our new Puppy Broyles who suddenly contracted the Corona Virus but survived it – all in just ONE week!
3) finally meeting the Bb. Pilipinas 2012 batch of candidates at the Talent Show in Ali Mall!
4) maintaining 137.5 lbs without a hitch!
How is the food at Gumbo? Well, the best thing we had was the Mudpie. A dessert worth going back to Gumbo for. The rest of our choices were… ok lang. I’d say 3 Tiaras out of 5. Maybe 3.5. They could improve with the quantity of the food and the taste as well – it wasn’t “Creole” enough. The Seafood Gumbo was interesting tho – it had like a Peanut Buttery taste to it. Parang Kare-Kare but… not.
The red wine, Grand Tierra, is one of the cheapest in the market and not really a good one. While there are some good cheap wines, Grand Tierra is not one of them at least for me. Gumbo needs to upgrade that as well! But, it’s okay, when I’m stuck with inferior red wine my solution to improve the flavor is to drop an ice cube in it. Or have it with grapes.
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Gumbo but I don’t think I will be developing a craving for the place…
